Transcript:

The truth is, Drugs and alcohol are there to help with something. It can be something physical, something emotional, something psychological, or even environmental, it is there to help with something. So I want you to take some time to think about how it started? What is your drinking there to help with? Why do you drink?

If you are drinking at 7 pm every day after work, what that’s saying is that your work life is so stressful so as soon as it reaches 7 pm you need to get that drink to deal with it.

Or maybe you are drinking to combat social anxiety or so that you fit in more, there are people that when they drink, they are more expressive and open and are able to be more social compared to when they are not drinking.

Maybe Alcohol helps you to sleep better, or maybe you are having chronic pain and drinking helps to take your mind off the pain. In that case, you’re using alcohol as a tool to help you sleep better or cope with the pain and the physical suffering. And you aren’t trying to find a solution to fix your sleeping issue or the pain, because your drinking is already taking care of it!

You found the tool (Alcohol), the tool works and you used it, not because you’re an addict but because it works.

So the question is, what is your drinking there to help you with? You are using alcohol as a crutch, so what areas of your life are failing at that you are using alcohol as a tool to help with? Take some time, think about it and answer that question.
