Our consistent and/or excessive use of alcohol or substances is usually what leads to us to getting caught in a bad habit and a cycle where we are not able to stop or reduce. This can be attributed to a combination of issues, whether internal experience or external situations.
The primary issue we have is there is a resistant to any attempt to curtail the practice. This can result in a self-defeating process, we mentally attack ourselves which exacerbates the experience. Statements such as “I’ll never be able to stop” or “I need it to get through the day” becomes our mantra. However, there are moments we have to embrace the problems so that we can grasp the true nature of how we feel in the midst of the yearn to engage in drinking or using substances.
The objective of this worksheet is to identify the areas where your drinking or substance use takes the most effect and to get a clear sense of just how much your habits invokes you to engage in using substances or drinking. This allows you to keep a record of your daily usage to give a clear way to track the intensity. By doing this, we can zero in on the areas that need to be addressed and better understand the underlying issue; we can gradually address it and mitigate the usage. The areas where we see an excess, we can focus on and identify the triggers that caused the increase. What happened on a specific day why you feel the need to engage in drinking or using? Is it because you are sad, happy, depressed? What emotions are you feeling currently?
